What you are looking at is a dental articulator. The articulator is a core piece of equipment in the dental laboratory. Its upper and lower trays carry the dental casts, while the joint mechanism simulates opening, protrusive and lateral movements of the mandible, allowing the technician to reproduce the patient's occlusal relationship outside the mouth for tooth arrangement and restoration fabrication. Made of metal, this articulator dates from the 19th to 20th century and shows the wear marks of long use. It is the bridge between the patient's mouth and the laboratory bench, and one of the most essential devices in denture fabrication.
